Stock Control Manager
About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced Stock Control Manager to take full ownership of stock accuracy, integrity, and flow across our warehouse operations.
This is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring stock is trusted by the business — not just recorded. You will lead the Stock Control function, manage day-to-day activity, and ensure discrepancies are investigated and resolved at source, rather than corrected through adjustments.
You will work closely with Warehouse, Goods In, Quality, and Automation teams to maintain stock accuracy across both automated and manual environments, while building a disciplined, investigation-led stock control function.
Key Responsibilities
Stock accuracy and ownership
- Own stock accuracy across all warehouse sites
- Ensure all stock movements are correctly and promptly recorded in the WMS
- Prevent unexplained variances through structured investigation and control
- Ensure stock integrity is treated as an operational outcome, not an admin task
Team leadership and management
- Lead and develop the Stock Control team
- Set clear expectations, standards, and daily priorities
- Ensure team output is consistent, disciplined, and aligned to business needs
- Build capability within the team to investigate and resolve issues, not just process adjustments
Inbound (Goods In) control
- Ensure inbound receipts are accurate and validated against documentation
- Identify shortages, overages, and discrepancies at Goods In
- Work with Warehouse Managers to control stock placement decisions
- Prevent inbound errors from being masked or passed downstream
Investigation and root cause ownership
- Lead investigation of stock discrepancies, shortages, and anomalies
- Ensure root causes are identified and corrective actions implemented
- Escalate repeat issues with clear evidence and recommendations
- Challenge behaviours or processes that create recurring stock issues
Stock control execution
- Oversee cycle counting and perpetual inventory programmes
- Control stock adjustments, transfers, and write-offs in line with company procedures
- Ensure adjustments are only made following proper investigation
Data, reporting, and visibility
- Monitor warehouse dashboards and reports
- Identify trends, risks, and data integrity issues
- Provide clear visibility of stock health and recurring problems
Cross-functional coordination
- Work closely with Warehouse, Quality, Automation, and Engineering teams
- Ensure stock control is aligned with operational flow and system behaviour
- Support continuous improvement across stock handling, processes, and systems
Continuous improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve stock accuracy, efficiency, and flow
- Implement improvements to stock control processes and system usage
- Reduce repeat discrepancies through better controls and behaviours
Authority & Accountability
- Authority to challenge or pause stock movements where integrity is at risk
- Authority to refuse adjustments that bypass investigation
- Accountable for ensuring stock discrepancies are understood, not masked
- Responsible for escalating material or repeat issues to Warehouse Management
About You
- Proven experience in a stock control or inventory management role, ideally in a warehouse environment
- Experience leading or managing a team
- Strong analytical mindset with a focus on root cause investigation
- Confident working with WMS systems (EasyWMS desirable) and reporting tools
- Comfortable challenging processes and behaviours where accuracy is at risk
- Organised, disciplined, and able to operate in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communicator, able to work cross-functionally
