Company + Job description
We are a small, devoted family team on a mission to inspire a love of wine, far beyond the bottle. Born from a challenge to redefine how our family used our slice of Devon, we wanted to grow something unusual that we could all be proud of. With a love of wine and the land, we jumped feet first into the world of English wine and now grow 7,000+ vines here on the edge of Dartmoor, alongside our kitchen, expanded shop, and on-site winery.
We are looking for a reliable, hard-working Kitchen Assistant to join our team. This role is the absolute backbone of our kitchen. For three days a week, you’ll be working alongside our Kitchen Lead, keeping the kitchen running like clockwork. On Fridays, you will step up, take the lead, and run the kitchen independently with our other Kitchen assistant.
Hours:
34 hours a week.
Your standard hours will be 8:30am – 5:00pm, Wednesday to Saturday but you will also be expected to cover occasional team holidays and sick days.
How much will we pay you?:
We use a tiered hourly rate to reward extra responsibility:
- Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday (Standard Assistant Rate): £12.91 per hour
- Friday (Sole-Charge Kitchen Lead Rate): £13.78 per hour
When does the job start?
As soon as possible.
What’s in it for me?
- You’ll be a valued, integral part of a small, casual, and passionate group.
- You’ll have the opportunity to learn about wine, growing vines, and winemaking/tasting in-house.
- You will have the opportunity to take part in casual team catch-ups and wine tasting (18+ to drink alcohol).
What will I be doing and what’s required of me?
- Working Alongside the Kitchen Lead (Wed, Thu, Sat): Your main role on these days is working directly alongside our Kitchen Lead. You will be hands-on with food prep and right in the action helping to cook and serve our lunch services. Managing the pot-washing station and maintaining our immaculate cleaning standards are expected around service and during the afternoon clean-down.
- Friday & Holiday Kitchen Ownership: On Fridays, you will take full control of the kitchen, confidently managing, cooking, and executing both our breakfast and lunch services alongside a Kitchen Assistant who will be there to support you. Crucially, you will also take full control of the kitchen to cover the Kitchen Lead's pre-booked holidays throughout the year.
- Holiday & Absence Cover: Because we are a small team, flexibility is vital. You will be contractually required to work occasional extra days or alternative shifts (such as Sundays) to cover team holidays, events, and sickness absences.
- You must be reliable, have impeccable timekeeping skills, and display excellent initiative when working alone.
- You will need your own transport to and from the vineyard, as access via public transport is limited.
What do I need?
- Commercial kitchen experience is essential—specifically the confidence to handle a solo lunch and breakfast service.
- A passion for quality food and drink, and a love of Devon.
- A positive attitude towards cleaning and keeping an organized, high-standard workspace.
- The desire to learn, adapt, and grow with a brave independent business.
- You must be willing to work weekends as well as weekdays.
