We need you!
We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to support families in joining our teams right across Birmingham!
You will not need prior experience, as all of our volunteers take part in a course to prepare them, before we match them to their first family to support.
This role is ideal for individuals who have a passion for making a positive impact in the community, particularly with parents and children.
As a volunteer, you will play a vital role in helping to give children the best possible start in life, by supporting parents in their time of need. You will provide- a shoulder to cry on, a listening ear and a practical pair of hands.
You will:
- Visit a local family in their own home once a week
- Offer a mix of emotional and practical support
- Be led by the parent in terms of their needs, (this may change weekly)
- Walk alongside them, in a friendly and non-judgemental way
- Attend regular support and supervisions with a Home-Start member of staff
Qualifications
- Parenting, or care-giving experience is highly desirable, (but not essential)
- A friendly, approachable demeanour with excellent communication and listening skills
- No formal qualifications are needed, as compulsory training is given, (including Safeguarding).
Many of our volunteers use their time with Home-Start Birmingham as a stepping stone into future employment, in the fields of Early Years, Social Work, Midwifery, Family Support and much more. Join us in making a difference in the lives of local parents and their children, while gaining valuable experience that you may wish to use for higher education or career progression.
