Overview
We are looking for a highly motivated Children & Young People Family Practitioner to join our team, to provide direct support to children and young people who have been affected by domestic abuse. This exciting role will primarily involve delivering child-led support to individual children & young people who’ve experienced domestic abuse, on a one-to-one basis or as part of a group. You’ll manage a caseload of families & individuals, prioritising their safety, assessing their needs and working with them to develop, implement and review their support plans.
Responsibilities
- Delivering domestic abuse awareness raising sessions and impact on children.
- Developing positive links and liaising with appropriate agencies, professionals individuals on behalf of the child or young person to ensure the diverse needs of children & young people using the service are met.
- Providing reports for agencies and attending and contributing to multi-agency meetings, bringing together practitioners from different sectors as part of a whole family approach.
- Gathering and developing resources to facilitate work with children and young people, and on social media.
- Keeping up to date with safeguarding legislation and local practice, and identify safeguarding and make appropriate referrals.
- Complying and actively contributing to the required monitoring of outcomes for the service
- Undertaking safety planning with all clients
- Covering our 24-hour helpline by working on call on a rota basis. You must be able to respond to emergencies when on-call out of hours. You’ll receive additional pay for your on call shifts (£15 for 1 day shift, £30 for an evening, £120 full weekend plus 16 pence per minute for any calls taken or administration time involved)
- Developing and delivering training both in person and online for My CWA’s Training and consultancy service
Requirements
- Understanding of the dynamics and typologies of domestic abuse.
- Knowledge and experience of direct work with families who have complex needs and working with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
- A good standard of education. Be literate and numerate - with evidence of recent learning in a related field (e.g. social care, domestic abuse, probation)
- Understanding of Safeguarding for children and vulnerable adults.
- Commitment to continuing professional development.
- The ability to be self-reflective and able to embrace learning from experiences and feedback.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organisational, report writing and communication skills.
- Assessment and support planning skills.
- Group work/training/facilitation skills.
- Proficient in basic computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and internet usage.
- Record keeping skills, organisation and planning skills.
- An ability to be open and non-judgmental.

Annual Leave
Full time staff have 27 days plus bank holidays. After 2 years employment an additional day’s holiday is added in April of each year up to a maximum of 32 days.
Probationary Period
Six months.
Notice period
Four weeks' notice from the end of probation period.
Location
The role is based at the My CWA office, Mill House, Brook Street, Crewe, Cheshire CW2 7DE.
Travel
Travel around Cheshire is essential to this role. Must be a driver with own car and business insurance.
