Had Fab Ltd is looking for a motivated and hardworking General Operative / Steelwork Labourer to join our growing operations team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in manufacturing, construction, engineering, steelwork, or a similar hands-on environment who is looking to develop their skills within a specialist structural steel and transmission pylon fabrication business.
Working across our workshop, yard, and steel erection operations, you will support the preparation, assembly, handling, and movement of structural steelwork and transmission pylon components, helping to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
What You'll Be Doing
As part of our operations team, you will:
- Assist with the assembly, installation, and erection of structural steelwork and transmission pylon components.
- Support fabrication, welding, and workshop activities.
- Carry out general labouring duties, including material handling, loading and unloading vehicles, housekeeping, and preparing work areas.
- Operate hand tools and basic workshop equipment safely and effectively.
- Assist with grinding, drilling, cutting, fettling, and steel preparation activities.
- Support quality inspections, testing processes, and client approval activities.
- Work closely with fabrication, welding, stores, workshop, and yard teams to meet production targets.
- Follow engineering drawings, work instructions, and supervisor guidance.
- Assist with lifting, rigging, and moving steel components when trained and authorised.
- Maintain clean, organised, and safe working environments at all times.
What We're Looking ForEssential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a workshop, steel fabrication, manufacturing, construction, engineering, or labouring environment.
- Experience using hand tools and basic workshop equipment safely.
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety practices.
- Reliable, hardworking, and willing to learn.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Flexible approach to duties and overtime requirements.
- Ability to work effectively to production schedules and deadlines.
- Positive attitude and commitment to quality workmanship.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
- Experience within the structural steelwork industry.
- Previous steel erection or site installation experience.
- Forklift, Telehandler, Overhead Crane, or Slinger/Signaller certification.
- Ability to read fabrication drawings and engineering documentation.
- CSCS, CPCS, IPAF, or other relevant industry qualifications.
