Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Glasshouse Assistant to support the maintenance and operation of our horticultural facilities. This role involves assisting with plant care, equipment maintenance, and general upkeep within the glasshouse environment. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in horticulture and possess practical skills related to equipment handling and maintenance. Duties
- Assist with irrigation systems to ensure proper watering of plants and minimise water wastage
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on glasshouse equipment using hand tools, power tools, and basic mechanical knowledge
- Conduct regular inspections of the glasshouse environment, including ventilation, heating, and lighting systems
- Support with horticultural tasks such as planting, pruning, repotting, and pest management
- Carry out heavy lifting of plants, soil bags, or equipment as required for daily operations
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation within the glasshouse to promote a safe working environment
- Assist with animal care if applicable, ensuring any animals or pests are managed responsibly
- Support with general maintenance tasks including equipment repair and troubleshooting mechanical issues
- Implement basic maths skills for measuring soil, fertilisers, or water levels as needed
Skills
- Knowledge of irrigation systems and horticultural practices is desirable
- Mechanical knowledge and experience with equipment repair are advantageous
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and basic maintenance equipment
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently
- Familiarity with animal care practices is a plus but not essential
- Strong understanding of horticulture principles and plant care techniques
- Good organisational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively
- Basic maths skills for measurements and calculations related to plant care and maintenance
