About Nelson Community Masjid
Nelson Community Masjid is a centre of worship, learning, and community service in the heart of Nelson, Lancashire. We care about the spiritual, educational, and moral development of Muslims of all ages, and we are looking for a dedicated Head of Education to lead our educational work.
Role Overview
The Head of Education will take the lead on all things educational at Nelson Community Masjid. This covers the day-to-day running of the madrassah, supporting and training teachers, refreshing the curriculum, and helping to organise any additional classes or courses as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Madrassah Management
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the madrassah, including timetabling, lesson planning and classes.
- Keep an eye on how students are getting on and put support in place where needed.
- Help maintain a welcoming, structured learning environment that reflects Islamic values.
- Keep parents and guardians informed about their child's progress and any concerns.
Teacher Training & Development
- Help recruit and induct new teaching staff.
- Put together a practical teacher training programme to support and develop the team.
- Carry out lesson observations and give helpful, constructive feedback.
Curriculum Development
- Review and refresh the existing madrassah curriculum so it is relevant, engaging, and right for the age groups being taught.
- Develop a structured curriculum covering Quranic studies, Islamic studies, Arabic language, and moral education.
- Review and update the curriculum from time to time based on how students are doing and feedback from the community.
- Will be required to teach additional courses or classes from time to time.
General
- Work alongside the organisation management and keep them updated on how things are going.
- Help manage the education budget
- Get involved in community events and represent the masjid where appropriate.
Safeguarding
The candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check prior to starting the role.
