Venus is looking to recruit an experienced Children and Young People’s Wellbeing Practitioner (CYWP) to join our dedicated and vibrant Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Wellbeing team at our Star Centre. We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Children & Young People Wellbeing Practitioner to join our team and support children, young people, and families experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is committed to making a positive difference within the community through early intervention, therapeutic support, and collaborative multi-agency working.
About the Role
Applicants must be a qualified Children and Young People Wellbeing Practitioner (CYWP) with experience of working within CYP Mental Health Services in the provision of both individual and group treatments.
The successful candidate will work directly with children, young people, and families to deliver outcome-focused and evidence-based interventions under supervision. You will support individuals in managing their emotional wellbeing while ensuring safeguarding, inclusion, and quality assurance remain central to your practice.
You will be responsible for assessing levels of risk and vulnerability, maintaining accurate case records, contributing to multi-disciplinary working, and ensuring interventions are delivered in line with national and local protocols.
The role requires someone who can build strong professional relationships, work autonomously when required, and maintain a compassionate, solution-focused approach at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver evidence-based interventions and guided self-help support to children and young people
- Assess risk, vulnerability, and safeguarding concerns using agreed assessment tools
- Develop intervention plans and agreed outcomes in partnership with children, young people, and families
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, case notes, and outcome data
- Support children and families to make informed choices about interventions
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies
- Attend and contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings
- Promote equality, inclusion, and safeguarding throughout all areas of work
- Escalate cases appropriately where needs become more complex
- Support access to services and promote community engagement
Essential Criteria
- Children and Young People Wellbeing Practitioner Qualification
- Ability to build trusting and positive relationships with clients
- Experience of working within a team environment
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to respond sensitively and appropriately in challenging situations
- Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously
- Good IT skills
Desirable Criteria
- Experience delivering therapeutic interventions to vulnerable children in a voluntary or community setting
- Awareness of safeguarding procedures within the Borough of Sefton
- Understanding of equal opportunities and inclusive practice

Monitoring and Compliance
· Assess and identify levels of risk, vulnerability and safeguarding using prescribed assessment tools, operating within agreed models and in line with agreed frameworks and protection plans ensuring that children’s voice is captured throughout the whole assessment and intervention process.
· Maintain accurate records of all assessments, plans, actions, reviews, and outcomes
· Record all agreed exit strategies and manage cases within the prescribed time limits unless otherwise agreed by the manager
· Ensure Quality Assurance Framework, legislation, regulations, policies and procedures are central to all good practice
· To ensure that support is carried out within Venus missions, aims, objectives & policies, including (but not restricted to) equal opportunities, safeguarding children & young people
Relationships and Engagement
· Assess and deliver, under supervision outcome focused, evidence-based interventions to children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
· Working in partnership, support children, young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties and their families in the self-management of presenting difficulties.
· Work in partnership with children, young people and families in the development of plans for the intervention and agreed outcomes.
· Support and empower children, young people and families to make informed choices about the intervention.
· Operate at all times from an inclusive values base, which recognises and respects diversity.
· Accept referrals within agreed national and local protocols.
· Undertakes accurate assessment of risk to self and others.
· Adhere to the service referral protocols. Under supervision signpost unsuitable referrals to the relevant service as necessary.
· Through close case management and supervision, escalate cases where the level of need becomes beyond scope, or more severe ensuring adherence to other relevant elements of service delivery.
· Provide a range of information and support for evidence based psychological treatments. This may include guided self-help. This work may be face-to-face, by telephone or via other media,
· Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the overall number of children and young people contacts offered, and sessions carried out per week in order to improve timely access and minimise waiting times.
· Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or CYP in treatment, where appropriate.
· Keep coherent records of all activity in line with service protocols and use these records and outcome data to inform decision making. Complete all requirements relating to data collection.
· Assess and integrate issues relating to transitions, education and training/employment into the overall therapeutic process.
· Work within a collaborative approach involving a range of relevant others when indicated.
· Work in collaboration with children, young people and communities to enhance and widen access

Person specification
Essential:
· Hold a post graduate Children and Young People Wellbeing Practitioner Qualification
· Ability to build trusting rapport with clients
· Experience of working with a team
· Self-motivated and able to work autonomously
· Ability to communicate with all internal and external stakeholders effectively both orally and in writing
· Ability to assess situations quickly and respond in an appropriate and sensitive manner
· IT skills
Desirable:
· Experience of working with vulnerable children delivering therapeutic interventions in a voluntary and community setting.
· An awareness of Safeguarding procedures within the Borough of Sefton
