Were looking for a skilled, motivated Workshop HGV Technician to join our Transport Services team. From refuse collection vehicles to specialist council equipment, youll be working on a diverse fleet that supports vital services across Stockton-on-Tees.
No two days will be the same - and everything you do will help keep the borough running smoothly.
What Youll Be Doing
Youll be part of a busy, supportive workshop where quality and teamwork matter. Your role will include:
- Inspecting, servicing, maintaining and repairing a wide range of vehicles and specialist equipment
- Preparing for and conducting MOT and Taxi (Private Hire and Hackney Carriage) testing to DVSA standards
- Diagnosing faults and delivering efficient, high-quality repairs
- Ensuring all work meets safety, legal and compliance requirements
- Delivering excellent service and practical advice to vehicle users
Youll also have the opportunity to become a qualified MOT Tester if youre not already - supporting your development and progression.
What Were Looking For
We want someone who brings both technical ability and the right attitude
Essential:
- NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Motor Vehicle Studies
- Experience in a commercial or HGV workshop environment
- Strong working knowledge of vehicle systems (engines, hydraulics, electrics, braking, transmissions)
- Ability to diagnose faults and think logically under pressure
- A proactive, flexible approach with great teamwork and communication skills
Youll be someone who takes pride in your work, enjoys problem-solving, and can work independently as well as part of a team.
Working Pattern
Youll work a rotating shift pattern (37 hours per week):
- Earlies: Mon-Thurs 06:00 - 14:00 | Fri 06:00 - 13:30
- Lates: Mon-Thurs 10:00 - 18:00 | Fri 10:00 - 17:30
There is also a requirement to take part in an out-of-hours call-out rota.
