Temporary Fixed Term, Full Time, 37 hours per week
Salary: £8.00 per hour/ £15,434.27 per annum from 1st April 2026, for all ages in their first year of the apprenticeship. The National Minimum Wage as appropriate to age is then paid for the remainder of the apprenticeship contract following completion of the first year. An opportunity has arisen to join Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Councils’ Network Management Team with 4 new apprentice posts based across Drainage, Street Lighting, Public Rights of Way and Parking Services the roles in each section will involve: -
Drainage Apprentice - One apprentice post within our drainage team and will assist with designing new highway drainage designs, dealing with customer enquiries, producing maintenance programmes for existing and new assets and help review planning applications for developments to ensure no increase in flood risk.
Public Rights of Way – One apprentice post within the Public Rights of Way Team. The Public Rights of Way Team maintain, improve and create Public Footpaths and Bridleways across the Rotherham Borough. The role will involve responding to Customer Reports, Complaints, carrying out site inspections, enforcement work and providing general administration for the team.
You will also be assisting the Definitive Map Officer with legal orders, need to be able to map read, use a range of mapping systems, databases and spreadsheets.
You will need to be a confident individual dealing with members of the Public as well as Local, District Councillors and relevant organisations. Must be able to work independently and have a driving license.
Parking Services – One apprentice post to undertake an effective range of business support duties for the Council’s Parking Service, processing business activity relating to sensitive and confidential information. The post holder will, under the supervision of a Parking Services Team Leader, be required to deliver excellent customer service and support.
Street Lighting, Signs and Amenities – One apprentice Electrician. We are looking to recruit an electrical apprentice to work within the multi-disciplined streetlighting, signs and amenities delivery team. The successful applicant will work alongside the existing street lighting electricians where they will gain a wealth of knowledge and experience. The workload will be varied and of a physical nature including the installation, maintenance, and repair of our electrical highway assets, it will also include some working at height. This is a technical position where the apprentice will also be expected to attend college and gain a Level 3 electrical qualification.
We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team who has an interest to learn new skills, acquire knowledge in a new discipline within a technical environment. They will need good time management and communication skills and be able to work as part of a team.
This post will provide assistance within the Highway Asset team and drainage team to contribute to the delivery of these services
4 GCSE’s at a level 5+ are required, specifically in Maths and English
This post will have access to the Public Services Network, if successful you will be required to apply for a disclosure of criminal records check at the Basic level (unspent criminal convictions).
