JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for someone who can commit to 4 or 5 full days with a 1:4 Saturday (0800-1300). Although can be flexible for the ideal candidate.
Job title: Head Veterinary Nurse, The Golf Veterinary Practice, Montrose branch.
Reporting to (Operationally), Sarah Cahill.
(Clinically), James Scoular.
SUMMARY OF ROLE
Responsible and accountable for leading the Nursing, Auxiliary and Reception team.
Responsible for all aspects of the nursing and auxiliary team management to include, but not be limited to: recruitment and selection, development, performance management, appraisal and absence management in line with Company policy.
To act as a role model to all staff, demonstrating clinical and leadership credibility/
Ensure a culture of high-level customer service is instilled in all members of the nursing, auxiliary and reception team.
Act as the Health & Safety Lead for the practice.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain professional nursing standards in accordance with RCVS guidelines.
Responsible for the supervision and management of the nursing team in accordance with professional and RCVS standards.
Manage the team by organising the duty rota according to department need, including covering absences at branch surgeries and on call duties as required.
Approve overtime and report this to Sarah 1 week before month end.
To provide consistent, clear, clinical and professional leadership and act as a mentor for all staff.
To provide clinical training and mentoring to nursing and auxiliary staff as required.
Create a clear and effective two-way communication within the nursing team ensuring all team members are kept up to date.
Arrange annual servicing for equipment in the clinic and ensure that all service records for equipment are up to date.
Ensure the maintenance of the hospital in a safe and hygienic condition with effective monitoring procedures.
Point of contact for VMD inspection/queries in Montrose.
MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITES
Identify service and policy development changes needed to ensure a continuing excellent service level and ensure implementation.
Identify training needs of new and current team members, proposing appropriate resources to address these training requirements. Responsible and accountable for the management of performance related issues and assisting in the resolution of grievance and disciplinary issues.
Assist PM with responding to all client queries and complaints in a timely and efficient manner as per our complaints procedure.
Assist with the effective implantation and embedding of projects, initiatives and policy developments at the practice within the required timescales.
Responsible for ensuring through the team, effective stock management and control and the undertaking of stock takes in accordance with practice policy.
Updating prices via NVS and Merlin.
Lead by example and be instrumental in creating excellent working relationships both internally and externally.
Contribute to plans for future growth.
Support and participate in all marketing and promotional events.
Liaise and communicate with suppliers and company representatives.
To allocate duties on a daily basis for all nursing staff and ensure they have the correct training for that area.
Allocate areas of responsibility to all nurses and ensure this is carried out fully and all records are kept up to date.
Ensure all new staff members receive a full induction, including EMS students and work experience students.
Regularly review the efficiency and effectiveness of the clinic with James and Sarah,
Ensure adequate presence on reception.
Responsible and accountable for continuously enhancing customer service.
Assist in audits as and when required.
Responsible and accountable for creating, implementing and ensuring compliance to dispensary policies.
Make suggestions to improve nursing or practice systems.
Develop nurse led clinics as you see appropriate.
