The Federation of Independent Retailers is one of Europe’s largest employers’ associations, with over 8000 independent retail stores across the UK and Ireland. We exist to help independent retailers compete more effectively in today’s highly competitive market. We actively represent our members’ interests at governmental and parliamentary level, and we are the official government referral body for the sector. We are proud to be a powerful voice for the independent retailer.
Today, our members include newsagents, convenience stores, confectioners, florists, petrol forecourts, news deliverers, off-licences, post offices, coffee shops, and card and stationery shops. We are excited to be looking for someone to join our field team as a Membership Development Executive.
Main Purpose
-Engaging with the existing members of the Federation and being tasked with growing membership numbers in your designated geographical territory to targeted levels.
-Maintaining change of ownership of stores in the designated territory through data and recruitment activity.
-Recruiting new members and developing further profitable business with existing Members through introducing them to new product streams and maximizing their potential benefit from their membership fees.
-Achieving required visit levels and lead generation on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
Duties & Responsibilities
-Selling Federation membership to new prospects and matching Federation business opportunities to those needs to ensure longevity of membership.
-Build relationships with and maintain an existing client base, through multiple means, physical, online investigations and through trade shows and events.
-Encourage all current members to partake in brilliant promotions and market leading opportunities
-Collaboration with our strategic business partners to create member growth and opportunities.
-Plan daily visit routes to minimise travel costs and maximise time in store each day.
-Help members with initiatives to make money, save money and make business easier for them, living the Federation mission to support independent retailers.
-Maximise the conversions of all change of ownership opportunities achieving target as a minimum.
-Full responsible for increasing member numbers in designated territory.
-Ask appropriate qualifying questions, to identify retailers needs to Federation benefits.
-Record and explore information held on customers to ensure effective customer relationship management and maximise up sell opportunities.
-To live and champion the Federation Values at all times.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Experience Required
Essential
-Must be a team player with the ability to manage own workload and work unsupervised and to be self-motivated.
-Must champion the Federations values and lives these everyday through interactions with colleagues, suppliers and members.
-A confident communicator at all levels.
-The ability to ensure all activity undertaken reflects the results desired, and targets set, with the foresight to adapt and change to ensure these are achieved.
-Presentation skills, verbal and nonverbal and the ability to use the tools supplied.
-Proven conversion history, and targets achieved with a persuasive but courteous style.
-IT literate – experience of using Microsoft packages in particular Word, Excel, PowerPoint and CRM systems.
-2-3 years’ work experience in a Sales / Field based role, ideally within the FMCG sector.
Desirable
-Strong interpersonal and communication skills – both written and verbal.
-Ability to work flexible hours as and when required.
-Willingness to travel across a geographical area daily.
-Overnight business stays will be part of the role requirements
-Someone who puts customers first and works as an individual.
-Able to develop a positive on-going working relationship at all levels across the Federation.
-Excellent organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise workload.
-Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
