Canford Law are recruiting an for a Housing Disrepair Paralegal to join our Manchester office. This is a full-time, hybrid role and offers excellent hands-on experience for candidates seeking to build a career in housing law and litigation.
The successful candidate will assist with the initial stages of housing disrepair claims, supporting the team by handling client enquiries, gathering evidence, and setting up new matters on the case management system.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the fee earner / solicitor on a full caseload
- Making outbound calls to potential clients
- Handling inbound telephone enquiries in a professional and empathetic manner
- Answering client questions and addressing concerns relating to housing conditions
- Liaising with potential clients to discuss disrepair issues within their properties and to obtain detailed information regarding the nature of the disrepair, including when and how issues were reported to landlords or housing providers
- Assessing information and evidence provided to assist in determining prospects of success under supervision
- Maintaining accurate and detailed records of all client interactions
- Opening and setting up new housing disrepair claims on the case management system
- Liaising with and providing updates to third parties where required
- Supporting fee earners and supervisors with administrative and case preparation tasks
Skills & Attributes
- Previous Housing Disrepair experience advantageous
- Previous Property / Litigation experience in a similar position advantageous
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Confident and professional telephone manner
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficiency in using computer systems and legal case management software
- Strong problem-solving ability
- Professional and client-focused approach
Development & Training
The successful candidate will receive training and gain experience in considering client instructions, preparing and drafting legal documents, reviewing and reporting on evidence, interviewing clients to obtain key factual information, using a legal case management system, developing professional telephone and client care skills, and effective diary and time management.
