SEN Tutor Required – New Milton / New Forest Area, Hampshire15 Hours Per Week | ASD / Communication Needs | Immediate Start
The Catch-Up Academy is currently seeking an experienced, compassionate and engaging tutor to support an 11-year-old student in the New Forest district (New Milton area).
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to a young person who benefits from consistency, structure and positive relationships.
The Role
- 15 hours per week
- 3 hours per day across 5 days
- Initial 8-week placement
- 1:1 tuition and engagement support
About the Student
The student has a primary need of Communication & Interaction (C&I) with diagnoses including:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Global Development Delay
He is described as a lovely, active young person who responds well to engaging, structured and relationship-led sessions. He is making encouraging progress academically and socially, particularly when sessions incorporate motivating and interactive activities.
Recent Progress Includes:
- Improved engagement with adult-led learning
- Developing expressive language skills
- Increased spontaneous communication and naming
- Significant progress in phonics
- Developing blending and segmenting skills for reading and writing
Makaton signing is used to support communication and reduce frustration where required.
Tutor Requirements
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience supporting children with ASD and SEND needs
- Understands communication and sensory differences
- Can adapt learning approaches to individual needs and interests
- Has experience delivering primary core subjects
- Can build positive, trusting relationships
Experience with Makaton or PECS would be beneficial, but is not essential.
