Industrial Recruitment Solutions are currently recruiting for a Works Manager for their manufacturing Client in the Birmingham area. This is an excellent opportunity to secure a permanent role within a fast-paced and well-established manufacturing operation.

Pay Rate:
- From £45,000 per annum
- Salary may be negotiable depending on experience
Job Duties:
- Oversee the day-to-day running of a busy steel manufacturing facility
- Plan and schedule work across each manufacturing team to ensure production targets and KPIs are achieved
- Communicate production lead times and any delivery changes to sales, purchasing and business support teams
- Order raw materials, stock and consumables
- Set and maintain minimum and maximum stock levels
- Approve goods received into stock and maintain overall stock accuracy
- Investigate stock discrepancies and arrange regular stock checks
- Oversee dispatch operations, safe loading and cost-effective delivery arrangements
- Approve credit notes relating to returns or agreed cost reductions
- Take responsibility for machinery condition, servicing and maintenance
- Coordinate with internal facilities teams and external maintenance providers
- Support engineering teams with new product introduction, compliance and testing
- Arrange stock transfers and external haulage when required
- Oversee company drivers and ensure transport compliance, including tachograph requirements
- Manage, develop and support workshop and office-based employees
- Assist with recruitment, performance management and disciplinary procedures alongside Group HR
- Monitor labour costs, revenue and operational performance
- Ensure site health and safety procedures, security arrangements and company policies are followed
- Act as the main operational contact for order updates, lead times, product queries and pricing information
- Maintain a visible and hands-on presence across the shop floor
Requirements:
- Previous experience working as a Works Manager, Production Manager or Manufacturing Manager
- A minimum of three years’ management experience within heavy steel manufacturing
- Strong knowledge of steel sheet, tube, box section, fabrication or similar manufacturing processes
- Experience managing production schedules, stock, purchasing, dispatch and maintenance
- Strong leadership and people-management skills
- Good understanding of health and safety requirements within a manufacturing environment
- Confident managing KPIs, costs, deadlines and production performance
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Comfortable working closely with both shop-floor and office-based teams
- Proactive, practical and able to resolve operational issues quickly
