Working in partnership with schools, Greater Manchester Police, Manchester City Council, and other partners we provide highly successful, flexible, and targeted approaches to anti-social behaviour and educational exclusion.
Youth Worker JOB DESCRIPTION
Catalyst is our detached and centre-based youth work project which operates from a mobile youth centre to facilitate workshops for young people aged 9-18 at locations across Greater Manchester.
This role involves playing a key role in the delivery of detached youth work sessions on a weekday evening in Stockport.
Youth Worker MAIN DUTIES
- Under the guidance and support of your Team Leader, deliver the Catalyst programme at locations across Stockport. This includes spending time with young people, acting as a positive role model, investing time in their interests and proactively seeking to understand what motivates and challenges them.
- Engaging in a range of sport and social activities both on and off the mobile youth van.
- Ensuring the welfare of young people and the N-Gage team during sessions.
- With direction from your Team Leader or Manager, play an active role in any community action projects or residential trips which may be included in the Catalyst area in which you are working.
- Encourage the development of young people holistically in line with N-Gage's beliefs and key aims.
- Be an enthusiastic ambassador of the N-Gage charity.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
ESSENTIAL
- Eligible to work in the UK.
- Passion to work with young people.
- Fully conversant with principles and practice of Child Protection.
- Valid UK drivers licence with own transport OR a willingness to use public transport where possible to get to sessions.
- Have a proven capacity to function as a team player.
- Be able to communicate effectively with young people.
- Demonstrate respect for authority including Team Leaders, Directors, CEO and Trustees.
- Be able to show evidence of possessing the ability to relate to groups of differing ability, age and culture.
- To adapt quickly and take responsibility when required and to handle confidential information appropriately.
- To play a full and active role as a worker for N-Gage, through participation in events and meetings when required whilst working, in line with the ethos of the charity.
DESIRABLE
- Previous experience of inner-city youth work.
- Experience of creative youth work in the community.
- Be flexible in your availability to work different evening sessions.
- Reliability to deliver and attend all sessions you are booked to do.
- Formal qualifications in Youth Work (JNC 2 preferred) or a willingness to undertake NVQ Level 2 or the equivalent.
Note: Hourly rate includes rolled-up holiday pay
