Overview
We are seeking a dedicated SEN (Special Educational Needs) Teaching Assistant to join our supportive educational team. The successful candidate will work closely with children requiring additional support, including those with autism and other disabilities. This role offers an enriching opportunity to make a positive impact on young learners' lives within an inclusive learning environment. The position is paid and suitable for individuals passionate about special education and working with children.
Duties
- Provide personalised support to children with special educational needs, including those with autism and other disabilities
- Assist teachers in planning and delivering tailored learning activities that meet individual student requirements
- Support children with daily routines, including toileting, dressing, and meal times, especially in toddler care settings
- Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and confidence
- Monitor and record students’ progress, behaviour, and development to inform ongoing support strategies
- Communicate effectively with pupils, teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure cohesive support plans
- Support children during break times and organise engaging activities to promote social interaction
Requirements
- Prior experience working with individuals with autism or disabilities is highly desirable
- Knowledge of special education practices and strategies for supporting children with diverse needs
- Experience working with children across different age groups, including toddlers
- Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with pupils, colleagues, and families
- Compassionate, patient, and adaptable approach to meet individual student needs
- Ability to work as part of a team within a busy educational environment
- Relevant qualifications or training in special education or child development are advantageous but not essential
