Complex Care Support Worker – NG Feeding Experience
We are looking for compassionate, experienced Support Workers to support a young person in Portsmouth.
About the Role
This is a specialist complex care role supporting a young person with high-acuity physical health, emotional wellbeing and behavioural support needs.
This role requires staff who are confident supporting NG feeding and wider enteral feeding routines.
Prior to support commencing within the family home there will be introductory visits within a hospital setting in Portsmouth to allow staff time to get to know the young person, build trust and support relational security ahead of discharge.
The young person presents with disordered eating requiring NG feeding support, diabetes, and autism alongside complex emotional needs and experiences of previous trauma within the family environment.
We are looking for people who understand the importance of relational practice and can build safe, trusting and therapeutic connections that support emotional safety, engagement and recovery.
You will:
- Deliver person-centred support in line with Care and Support Plans, clinical guidance and risk assessments
- Safely support NG feeding and enteral feeding routines
- Work collaboratively alongside family members, clinicians and multidisciplinary professionals
- Use Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), PACE and trauma-informed approaches
- Support emotional regulation, routines and engagement within the home environment
- Build safe, trusting and therapeutic relationships
- Maintain accurate records and daily care documentation
Shift Information
- Portsmouth based
- Weekdays: 2:1 support between 09:30–17:30
- Weekends: 1:1 support between 09:30–17:30
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years’ experience in health, social care or complex care settings
- Experience supporting children or young people with complex health and behavioural needs
- Experience supporting NG feeding and/or enteral feeding routines (with training and competency sign off)
- Understanding of autism, trauma-informed care, emotional distress and eating-related difficulties
- Strong communication and record-keeping skills
- NVQ Level 3 preferred/ Level 2 accepted (or Care Certificate minimum)
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to complete specialist training
- Experience supporting behaviours of concern and crisis presentations
- Training in PMVA or CPI Physical Safety Interventions and Positive Behaviour Support
