Job Title: Functional Skills Tutor (Assessor / Tutor) - Maternity Cover 12 months
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours p/w
Salary: £28,000.00 - £35,000.00 per annum

As a Functional Skills Tutor, you will play a vital role in changing lives by building learners’ confidence, capability, and independence through high‑quality Maths and English delivery. For many learners, this role represents a turning point helping them achieve qualifications they may have previously struggled to attain and unlocking opportunities for progression, employment, and long‑term success.
Reporting to the Area Manager / Operations Manager, you will deliver engaging, learner‑centred teaching and tailored support that enables individuals to reach their full potential. Your work will contribute directly to positive learner outcomes while maintaining high standards of quality, compliance, and funding requirements, and fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment where every learner can thrive.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
- Deliver high-quality Maths and English sessions to individuals and groups, including online delivery via platforms such as Teams.
- · Complete initial assessments, diagnostics, and educational testing to identify learner
- needs and inform personalised learning plans.
- · Create and monitor individual learning plans to support learner progression. FS team to review.
- · Work collaboratively with delivery teams to provide effective support and guidance for learners.
- · Support learners to achieve a 75% first-time pass rate in Functional Skills for entry level and level 1 and 65% at Level 2 through high-quality teaching and timely intervention.
- · Keep learner management data accurate and up to date.
- · Actively participate in team meetings, standardisation activities, and the sharing of best practice.
- · Contribute to quality assurance processes and support the organisation’s low-risk status.
- · Ensure timely interventions for learners at risk of delayed achievement.

Essential Criteria
Minimum of Level 2 Functional Skills qualification in English and Maths, or equivalent. Thorough understanding of apprenticeship frameworks, funding, and Functional Skills.
Strong knowledge of Maths and English teaching strategies.
Ability to conduct diagnostic assessments, initial screeners, and educational testing to support learner progression and identify additional learning needs.
Expertise in SEN(D) strategies, additional learning support, and assessment for access arrangements.
Proficient IT skills that include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Ability to work independently but also as part of a team
Driving licence with access to own car
Desirable Criteria
Hold or working towards an assessor qualification (TAQA or equivalent qualification)
Relevant teaching qualification (minimum PTTLS) or Certificate in Education and Training at Level 3 or 4
Experience designing and developing curriculums for Maths and English.
Key Technologies
