Role
You would be working in our small, luxury care home making sure the quality of our residents' environment always matched their expectations.
Remuneration
£15.89 per hour
As an employee-owner, you would share in the 20% of dividends given to staff.
Hours
Hours by agreement. Minimum 16 and possibly 16 at our sister care home in Bromley.
Required Skills and Experience
To ensure the care home building, equipment, and facilities are maintained in a safe, functional, and well-presented condition for residents, staff, and visitors. The Maintenance Person will carry out routine maintenance, minor repairs, safety checks, and liaise with external contractors when specialist work is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general maintenance and repairs throughout the care home, ensuring the premises remain safe and in good working order.
- Undertake minor electrical and plumbing repairs where safe and appropriate, reporting issues that require qualified contractors.
- Maintain the interior of the home through painting and decorating to a high specification, ensuring communal and private areas remain clean and well-presented. This extends to the exterior buildings also.
- Conduct routine health and safety checks around the building and report any concerns to management.
- Monitor the heating system, including basic checks of boilers, radiators, and thermostats, reporting faults or concerns promptly.
- Carry out basic Legionella prevention tasks, such as flushing little-used outlets, checking water temperatures, and maintaining required records in accordance with the home’s procedures.
- Complete general building maintenance tasks, including minor carpentry, repairing fixtures and fittings, adjusting doors, replacing locks, and other small repairs.
- Support the internal and external maintenance of the building, ensuring the environment remains safe, comfortable, and suitable for residents.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff or management and prioritise tasks accordingly.
- Maintain records of maintenance checks and completed work where required e.g. Emergency Lighting.
- Work safely at all times and follow the care home’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Liaise with and supervise external contractors when necessary.
Skills and Experience
- Good all-round practical maintenance and repair skills.
- Basic electrical and plumbing knowledge (formal qualifications not required).
- Able to produce high quality painting and decorating and general building maintenance.
- Ability to identify faults and resolve problems efficiently.
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively.
- Good communication skills to liaise with staff and management.
- A proactive approach to maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for residents.
Training
Awareness of health and safety practices is desirable; however, relevant training will be provided, including:
- Manual handling
- Working safely at height
- Health and safety awareness
- Legionella awareness
