Cowley is a high school and Sixth Form College with approximately 1500 students, of which 250 are in the Sixth Form. Cowley is steeped in history and is one of the oldest schools in St Helens, if not the oldest having been founded in 1716.
We were delighted to welcome Ofsted in March 2026. During the visit, inspectors consistently described our students as “delightful” and recognised the genuine pride they take in being part of the College.
Inspectors spoke directly with students, who described the school as a safe environment where they feel happy, supported and valued. They noted that “the school is undergoing rapid, purposeful and well-sequenced improvement” and that this is “rooted in a clear understanding of what pupils need.”, underlining our continued commitment to providing the very best education and opportunities for every member of our community.
There is always something happening here in our college, whether that be dance shows, sporting events, clubs or special guest talks. When we say to our new students that ‘there is something for everyone’ in terms of extra-curricular, we really mean it! Whether students’ interest be performing arts, chess, reading, science or sport, we will likely have a club for them to join.
