A fast-growing and well-established manufacturer within the nutrition and health products sector is seeking an experienced Technical Manager to lead quality, compliance, and product development activities across a busy manufacturing operation.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong and commercially aware professional to join a business operating to high industry standards, supplying innovative nutritional and health products to a diverse customer base.
The Role
Reporting directly to the COO, the Technical Manager will take responsibility for maintaining and developing the company’s quality management systems, ensuring compliance with food safety legislation and customer standards, while supporting new product development and continuous improvement initiatives.
The successful candidate will oversee the Quality Team Leader and NPD Manager and play a key role in driving technical excellence across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and continuously improve the Quality Management System and HACCP programme
- Maintain compliance with BRCGS standards and support external audits
- Act as the primary contact for customer and third-party technical audits
- Provide technical guidance on food safety, quality, hygiene, GMP, and legislation
- Support and participate in customer NPD trials and factory scale-ups
- Ensure all products meet legal, safety, and customer specification requirements
- Oversee supplier approval and supplier audit activities
- Work closely with production and commercial teams to support operational excellence
- Manage raw material and customer specifications
- Support product launches and artwork approval processes
- Drive internal audit programmes and corrective action plans
- Develop departmental KPIs, objectives, and team performance
- Mentor and develop a growing technical team through reviews, coaching, and training
About You
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background within food, nutrition, or supplement manufacturing and be confident operating within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Technical or Quality Management role
- Degree qualification in Food Manufacturing, Food Safety, or related discipline
- Level 4 HACCP qualification
- Level 4 Food Safety qualification
- Strong understanding of food legislation and quality systems
- Experience managing audits and customer technical relationships
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
Desirable
- Lead Auditor qualification
- Experience within nutritional supplements, health products, or contract manufacturing
- Understanding of ISO14001 and ISO45001
- Previous senior technical management experience
