We are seeking an experienced and customer-focused Assistant Branch Manager to support the smooth daily operations of our retail banking branch. The successful candidate will assist in managing branch operations, supervising frontline banking staff, ensuring compliance with banking regulations, and delivering excellent customer service.
This role is ideal for someone with strong banking operations experience, leadership capability, and knowledge of UK retail banking procedures including AML and KYC compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Branch Operations
- Support the Branch Manager in ensuring smooth day-to-day branch operations
- Supervise and manage Personal Bankers and Cashiers
- Monitor branch operational performance and maintain operational excellence
- Oversee cash operations, balancing, and transaction approvals
- Maintain branch security procedures, keys, alarms, and safe custody processes
- Ensure accurate maintenance of branch records, registers, and documentation
- Support branch audits, reviews, and compliance checks
Customer Service
- Deliver excellent customer service standards
- Handle customer enquiries and complaints professionally
- Act as a key point of contact for branch customers
- Ensure a positive customer experience at all times
Compliance & Risk
- Ensure AML (Anti-Money Laundering) and KYC (Know Your Customer) procedures are followed
- Monitor compliance with banking policies and operational controls
- Verify account opening and closing documentation
- Maintain confidentiality and data security standards
Loan Administration
- Assist with loan application processing and documentation
- Maintain loan files and related registers
- Support appraisal and follow-up of loan accounts
- Calculate drawing power and prepare documentation for approvals
Team Management
- Supervise branch staff attendance and punctuality
- Provide operational guidance and support to staff
- Allocate duties during busy periods or emergencies
- Support training and development of team members
Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in retail banking operations
- Strong understanding of UK banking regulations and procedures
- Knowledge of AML, KYC, and risk control processes
- Experience supervising or leading a small team
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Strong customer service and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively
Desirable
- Experience in branch administration and loan processing
- Knowledge of banking systems and Microsoft Office applications
