Atkinson Equipment Limited is a long-established Wiltshire based precision engineering company that has demonstrated continual growth by building a reputation for excellence in everything it does. Mainstay products such as the Tankmaster valve & sight gauge, the Filstop and the more recent Tanktop, have ensured that Atkinson Equipment have stayed at the top of their game in the oil heating industry.
Principal Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Dimensional & Technical Inspection
· Perform advanced dimensional inspection using CMMs, height gauges, micrometres, bore gauges, thread gauges, and surface measurement equipment.
· Program and operate CMM systems to inspect complex components.
· Interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and machining symbols to verify product conformity.
· Conduct first‑off, in‑process, and final inspections for CNC‑machined parts, bought in components and subcontracted components.
· Produce and approve FAIRs/ISIRs, PPAP documentation, and traceability records.
2. Quality Systems & Compliance
· Maintain compliance with ISO 9001, with awareness of ISO 14001 and 45001 requirements. Including the amendment/creation of operational processes and procedures.
· Support internal audits, process audits, supply chain approval audits and inspection‑related corrective actions.
· Manage calibration control, ensuring gauges and measurement equipment remain compliant and traceable.
· Verify material certification, batch control, and supplier documentation.
3. Non‑Conformance & Problem Solving
· Identify, record, and contain non‑conforming products effectively.
· Make informed disposition decisions (pass, fail, rework, concession request).
· Provide technical input into root‑cause analysis using 5Y, Ishikawa, or similar tools.
· Support defect trend analysis and improvement actions.
4. Leadership & Communication
· Act as a technical lead for junior inspectors and production staff.
· Provide feedback to machinists on tool wear, process variation, and machining issues.
· Communicate effectively with engineering, production, and customers when required.
· Deliver training on inspection techniques, measurement tools, and quality procedures, where required.
5. Operational Discipline
· Maintain a clean, organised, and safe inspection area in line with 5S and H&S requirements.
· Ensure correct handling, storage, and protection of components, including high‑value or safety‑critical parts.
· Support continuous improvement initiatives, capability studies, and scrap‑reduction projects.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Strong background in Quality inspection within precision engineering.
· Proficient in CMM programming and operation.
· Excellent understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing and engineering drawings.
· Experience with ISO 9001 quality systems and audit processes.
· Competent with measurement equipment, calibration systems, and inspection documentation.
· Strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
· Ability to work independently and lead others in technical tasks
· Microsoft office proficiency
