About the role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a General Foreman to join our outstanding Major Projects team to work at our Old Oak Common development in London – join us and be part of the largest construction project in the UK.
HS2s new c. 1 billion Old Oak Common station will become the UKs best-connected rail station once completed. Our Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA joint venture will be responsible for the final design, construction, and commissioning of the station in Northwest London.
Upon completion, the new station will boast six underground platforms and up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line. Old Oak Common will also provide highspeed rail services to the Midlands, central London, Scotland, and the North, as well as direct services to three major airports. Incorporating passenger and retail facilities, the new station will provide an exceptional customer experience for both passengers and visitors to the station.
What you'll be doing
- Attend daily coordination meeting(s) (Daily Activity Briefing sessions – start and finish
of each shift)
- Attend weekly site-wide coordination meeting(s)
- Support the work package teams to ensure that all works are carried out safely and in
accordance with the works information
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to safety
o Lead and set personal example of safe behaviour and responsible manner at
all times
o Report all accidents, incidents, and close calls and work with the different
teams to close out actions
o Report any damage to plant, equipment and highlight to the relevant
supervisor if something becomes worn or defective
o Attend health surveillance when instructed
- Managing and coordinating with the subcontractors and working with them to ensure
that all works including disciplines do not interfere with each other
- Maintain daily records of activities to assist with progress monitoring and tracking of
productivity
- Communicating messages between management and on-site teams such as health
and safety cascades, improvements to working practices, and alterations to sitewide
logistic plans and routes
- Working with the on-site logistics team to highlight and help plan in ensuring that the
right equipment and machinery are available for specific parts of the project
- Working with the Plant Inspector and other teams to ensure that all plant and
machinery are kept in a good condition
- Work with the subcontractors and teams to identify any issues and concerns and offer
solutions that may help to mitigate the impacts and/ or overall resolution
Who we're looking for
CITB SMSTS- CSCS
- NVQ Level 3/4 in Construction Supervision
- Strong leadership and managerial attributes
- Exceptional organisation and time-management skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external internal and external stake
holders in verbal and written form
- To hold a full UK driving licence
- Flexible approach to working hours and activities
- Requirement to work weekends on occasions to support the sitewide delivery of the works
