About the Role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our Regional Scotland team on a Education Build Project
Based in Glasgow, you will support the commercial delivery of this major building project, working closely with the wider project team, customer and supply-chain partners.
We are looking for a Quantity Surveyor with proven experience across building, structural or complex construction projects. This is an excellent opportunity to take commercial ownership of key work packages while contributing to the successful delivery of an important new education facility.
What you'll be doing
As Quantity Surveyor, you will manage the costs and income associated with your area of responsibility, helping the project achieve its commercial, programme, quality and customer objectives.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Measuring, recording and valuing works in accordance with contractual requirements and company procedures
- Managing the commercial performance of structural and building work packages
- Preparing cost-value reconciliations, forecasts and commercial reports
- Reviewing drawings, specifications and works information
- Preparing bills of quantities, schedules of rates and first-principle estimates
- Procuring subcontractors and managing subcontract enquiries, tender comparisons and adjudications
- Managing subcontract accounts, including valuations, payments, variations and final accounts
- Working with the project team to plan commercial activities in line with the construction programme
- Collating and reporting accurate cost and value information
- Developing a strong understanding of the customer contract and associated commercial risks
- Identifying, assessing and managing change, delay and disruption
- Building effective relationships with the customer, subcontractors and key stakeholders
- Supporting and mentoring less-experienced members of the commercial team where required
Who we're looking for
You will have:
- Previous Quantity Surveying experience within the construction industry
- Strong experience on building, structural or major construction projects
- Experience managing subcontract procurement and subcontract accounts
- Good knowledge of construction contracts and commercial processes
- The ability to interpret drawings, specifications and programme information
- Experience preparing forecasts, cost reports and cost-value reconciliations
- Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
- Effective communication, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills
- The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary project team
Qualifications
Ideally, you will hold:
- A BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying, or equivalent commercial experience
- An appropriate CSCS card
- Membership of, or be working towards membership of, the RICS, ICES or CIOB
