Job Purpose:
To support the efficient day-to-day operation of the catering service by delivering high standards of food preparation, service, cleanliness, and customer care. The General Assistant plays a key role in ensuring a safe, hygienic, and welcoming environment for all clients, visitors, and team members.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation & Service
- Assist with basic food preparation tasks, including washing, peeling, chopping, and assembling ingredients in line with company standards
- Support chefs in preparing meals for service in a timely manner
- Serve food and beverages to customers in a professional and friendly manner
- Ensure food is presented attractively and in line with portion control guidelines
- Replenish counters, displays, and service areas as required during service periods
Customer Service
- Deliver excellent customer service at all times, maintaining a positive and approachable attitude
- Engage with customers, responding to queries and requests promptly and professionally
- Handle customer feedback appropriately, escalating concerns when necessary
- Maintain a clean, welcoming dining environment for all guests
Cleaning & Hygiene
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across all kitchen, service, and dining areas
- Carry out daily cleaning schedules, including equipment, surfaces, and utensils
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations (including HACCP procedures)
- Follow all company and statutory health & safety guidelines
- Dispose of waste correctly, adhering to recycling and environmental policies
Stock Control & Organisation
- Assist with receiving, checking, and storing deliveries in line with food safety standards
- Ensure stock is rotated using FIFO (First In, First Out) principles
- Report any shortages, damages, or quality issues promptly
- Keep storage areas well organised and tidy
Health & Safety
- Follow all health and safety procedures at all times
- Use equipment safely and report faults immediately
- Maintain personal hygiene standards in line with food safety requirements
- Wear appropriate PPE and uniform as required
Teamwork & Communication
- Work collaboratively with kitchen and front-of-house team members
- Support colleagues during busy periods to ensure smooth service delivery
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and management
- Participate in team briefings and training sessions when required
