You will be working with a reputed company in a 49 bedded nursing home and will receive good support from the manager, staff and the directors.
Required for general maintenance/decorating jobs.
Experience Requirements:
- Previous maintenance or handyman experience, 2-3 years in a similar environment (care home, hospital, school, hotel or housing association).
- Experience in basic building trades, such as plumbing repairs (taps, leaks, toilets)
- Joinery/woodwork (doors, locks, furniture).
- Painting & Decorating.
- Electrical basics (changing bulbs, sockets and fuses, can follow up the instruction & feedback the fault findings with qualified engineer.
- Have proven experience & skills you've handled in.
- Maintenance in occupied residential buildings.
- Repairs while respecting residents' privacy and safety.
- Familiarity with Health & Safety regulations, COSHH and manual handling.
- Experience logging maintenance work or using maintenance request systems (paper or digital) or skills to learn and follow up the instructions.
Key Skills & Competencies:
- Practical, hands on skills across multiple trades.
- Problem solving ability - able to diagnose and fix small issues independently.
- Knowledge of safety procedures including Fire Safety checks (alarms, extinguishers, fire doors), Legionella water temperature checks, PAT testing (if trained).
- Good communication - able to interact politely with elderly residents, carers and management.
- Time management - priortise urgent repairs or maintenance schedules.
- Attention to detail - especially for recording maintenance logs, safety checks and Health & Safety related audits.
- Basic IT or record keeping skills (email, logging jobs, using tablets or checklists).
- Physical fitness - able to lift, climb ladders and carry tools.
- Teamwork - working closely with care staff, cleaners and external contractors.
- Respectful attitude toward vulnerable adults and understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding principles.
Desirable Qualifications or Certificates:
- City & Guilds or NVQ Level2+ in a trade (plumbing, joinery, painting, electrical etc.)
- Health & Safety certificate (Level 2 or above).
- Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) certificate.
- Fire safety or Legionella awareness training.
- Full UK driving licence (often required for multi-site roles).
- Enhanced DBS check.
Job Duties:
- Hands-on with transfers of supply goods delivered.
- Carry out daily maintenance inspections.
- Responding promptly to repair requests.
- Painting, decorating and minor refurbishments.
- Maintenance gardens, driveways and outdoor areas.
- Checking fire doors, alarms and emergency lighting.
- Ensuring resident's rooms and communal areas are safe.
- Coordinating with contractors for larger jobs.
- Supporting safe evacuation procedures and maintenance of records.
