We're looking for an Electrification & Plant (E&P) Asset Engineer to play a key role in shaping how critical rail infrastructure is maintained, improved and invested in for the future.
This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll combine technical expertise with strategic thinking-helping to define maintenance strategies, develop renewal programmes, and ensure our assets continue to perform safely and reliably across the network.
You'll work across the full asset lifecycle-from understanding condition and performance, through to specifying renewals and supporting project delivery-giving you real influence on how infrastructure evolves over time.
What You'll Be Doing
In this role, you will:
Drive asset performance and reliability
Analyse asset condition, defects and failure trends-using data to identify risks, predict issues, and prevent repeat failures.
Shape maintenance and inspection strategies
Define what "good" looks like for E&P asset maintenance and work closely with suppliers to ensure it's achieved.
Lead technical problem-solving
Investigate issues, resolve technical challenges, and provide expert guidance to internal teams and contractors.
Develop renewal and investment plans
Translate asset condition and risk into clear, prioritised workbanks that inform long-term investment decisions.
Support project delivery from concept to handover
Develop technical scopes, advise project teams, and ensure new or upgraded assets meet required standards.
Ensure safety and compliance
Act as a technical authority within your discipline-making sure all activities align with standards, policies and best practice.
Strengthen asset assurance and governance
Contribute to assurance plans, carry out verification activities, and support investigations where required.
Maintain strong asset intelligence
Ensure asset data and records are accurate, enabling better decision-making across the organisation.
Why This Role is Different
End-to-end influence - from strategy and planning through to delivery and assurance
Real impact - your decisions directly affect safety, performance and investment priorities
Technical depth + strategic thinking - not just maintenance, but shaping the future of the asset base
Collaboration across disciplines - work with projects, suppliers, and technical specialists
What You'll Bring
Strong engineering knowledge of E&P assets
A data-driven mindset with the ability to turn insights into actions
Confidence working with suppliers and influencing technical outcomes
A passion for improving asset performance, safety, and reliability
