Looking for a calm, reliable and confident SEN / SEMH Sports Mentor to support a Year 3 child in the Lichfield area.
This is a highly personalised alternative provision role. The child responds well to football, movement and outdoor activity, so most sessions will be built around football-based engagement, structured play, emotional regulation and positive relationship-building.
This is not a traditional classroom tutoring role. The main focus is to help the child feel safe, build trust, follow routine, manage emotions and slowly re-engage with learning through short, manageable education tasks.
Learning will usually be introduced in short bursts of around 10–20 minutes, depending on the child’s engagement on the day.
Session Structure
Each 2-hour session may include:
Football-based activity and movement breaks
Building trust, routine and positive rapport
Short English and Maths activities
Basic number work including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
Simple handwriting, reading and sentence work
Calm transitions between football and learning
Emotional regulation and de-escalation support
Supporting safe behaviour in outdoor or suitable activity spaces
Working alongside another tutor/mentor as part of a 2:1 support model
About the Child
The child is currently in Year 3 and requires a calm, consistent and trauma-informed approach.
At times, the child may present with challenging behaviour. The successful candidates must be confident staying calm, maintaining professional boundaries and using positive de-escalation strategies to keep the session safe and supportive.
The right person will understand that progress may be slow and that the priority is consistency, trust, emotional regulation and engagement before formal learning.
