About the Role
We are looking for an experienced, senior-level HLTA to provide leadership within our secondary school SEND department. This role is for a skilled practitioner ready to manage EHCP processes, lead classroom learning, and model exceptional standards for the wider support team.
Key Responsibilities
- EHCP & Provision Leadership: Lead EHCP Annual Reviews, co-produce learning plans, and oversee provision mapping for a high caseload of SEND students.
- Classroom Leadership: Cover classes and lead full lessons in the teacher’s absence, ensuring high expectations and strong behavior management.
- Interventions: Plan, adapt, and deliver targeted 1:1 and small-group interventions to close attainment gaps.
- Team Mentoring: Act as a role model and mentor for less experienced TAs and LSAs within the department.
- Collaboration: Liaise directly with parents, teachers, and external specialists (SALT, OT, CAMHS) to coordinate pupil support.
Person Specification
- Experience: At least 3 years in a secondary school setting with a proven track record of managing or heavily contributing to EHCP reviews.
- Qualifications: HLTA status or a degree-level background is preferred. Relevant training (Team Teach, First Aid, Manual Handling) is highly desirable.
- Skills: Expert knowledge of secondary SEND needs (ASD, SEMH, ADHD), confident whole-class management skills, and strong formal report writing.
- Attributes: Proactive leadership mindset, emotional resilience, and an uncompromised commitment to student safeguarding.
