Job Purpose
The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily warehouse operations at Dunns Food and Drinks' distribution centre. This includes leading a team of operatives to ensure the efficient, safe, and accurate handling, storage, and dispatch of food and drink products. The role supports operational excellence through effective planning, team leadership, stock control, health and safety compliance, and continuous improvement.

Team members are required to follow all food safety procedures, maintain high standards of hygiene and product handling, and support the effective implementation of our HACCP and quality management systems. Each role contributes to ensuring products are stored, handled, and transported safely, legally, and to specification. Staff must participate in required training, report any non-conformances, and actively promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement across the distribution operation.

Employee Responsibilities
- Follow all health and safety procedures, including correct use of PPE and adherence to hygiene standards.
- Report hazards, accidents, or non-compliance immediately to management.
- Participate in mandatory food safety and health training sessions.
Management Responsibilities
- Monitor compliance with health and safety and food hygiene regulations.
- Conduct regular internal audits and implement corrective actions where necessary.
- Liaise with EHOs and regulatory bodies to ensure full compliance and maintain a high Food Hygiene Rating.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise, motivate, and support a team of warehouse operatives, drivers, and forklift operators.
- Allocate daily tasks, monitor performance, and conduct briefings to ensure operational targets are met.
- Support training and development of new and existing staff.
- Lead by example in maintaining a professional and positive working environment.
Warehouse Operations
- Oversee all inbound and outbound logistics including goods receiving, picking, packing, and loading.
- Ensure accurate order fulfilment and timely dispatch aligned with customer and business expectations.
- Monitor stock levels, support cycle counting and stocktakes, and report variances.
- Ensure all product handling follows HACCP, FIFO/FEFO, and temperature control procedures.
Health & Safety and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all relevant food safety, health and safety, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections and toolbox talks to ensure standards are maintained (e.g., manual handling, PPE, housekeeping).
- Report and investigate any incidents, near misses, or non-conformances promptly.
- Enforce site rules and ensure safe operation of forklifts, pallet trucks, and other equipment.
Systems and Reporting
- Use warehouse management systems (WMS) and or handheld scanners to track and record goods movement.
- Generate and maintain records relating to stock, deliveries, returns, and shift performance.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining operational KPIs.
Continuous Improvement
- Support operational improvements to increase accuracy, efficiency, and safety.
- Recommend improvements to layouts, processes, and systems based on day-to-day observations.
- Participate in regular team meetings and cross-departmental projects.
Person Specification
Essential
- Proven experience in a supervisory role within a busy warehouse or distribution environment.
- Strong understanding of food safety practices and warehouse operations (HACCP, stock rotation, etc.).
- Good leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and delegate.
- Competent IT skills (Microsoft Office, warehouse systems).
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Flexible, hands-on approach with a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Valid forklift licence (counterbalance or reach) or willingness to train.
Desirable:
- Experience with HACCP
- Experience within the food and drink industry.
- IOSH or similar health & safety qualification.
- Experience with ERP/WMS systems

Working Conditions:
- Warehouse environment (chilled, ambient, and dry goods).
- Manual handling and operating MHE (training provided).
- Rotational shifts and occasional weekend working may be required.
