Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to work within a school setting in Cardiff, supporting pupils aged 9–16 years. This role is ideal for someone passionate about helping young people overcome behavioural and emotional challenges to achieve positive outcomes in education.
You will work closely with teaching staff and the wider support team to provide targeted behavioural support to pupils who may display challenging behaviour, helping them to engage positively with learning and school life.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with behavioural needs
- Support the implementation of behaviour management strategies and individual behaviour plans
- De-escalate challenging situations using positive behaviour support techniques
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
- Promote emotional regulation, social skills, and positive behaviour
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to behaviour monitoring and reviews
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working with children or young people (school, care, youth work, or similar)
- Strong behaviour management skills and confidence managing challenging behaviour
- Calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Enhanced DBS on the update service - or willing to apply for one
- A Right to Work in the UK
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience working in a school or alternative provision
- Knowledge of SEMH, SEN, or trauma-informed practice
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. Teaching Assistant, Youth Work, or Care-related qualifications)
