We are looking for a passionate, resilient, and adaptable SEN Teacher to join our alternative provision supporting KS3 and KS4 students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, additional learning needs, and challenging behaviour.
This role is suited to someone who can engage hard-to-reach young people, build strong relationships, and create a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment where students can achieve both academically and personally.
Many of our students have experienced barriers to education, trauma, poor school experiences, or difficulties within mainstream settings. We are looking for someone who understands these challenges and can positively support young people to re-engage with learning.
The Role:
You will teach a small group of students using a primary-style teaching model, delivering core subjects including English and Maths while adapting lessons to meet individual needs and learning styles.
You will also:
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons
- Support students with SEMH, ASC, ADHD, and additional learning needs
- Build positive and professional relationships with students
- Manage challenging behaviour using restorative and trauma-informed approaches
- Monitor progress, wellbeing, attendance, and engagement
- Work closely with support staff, families, and external agencies
- Contribute to EHCP reviews and student support plans
- Create a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment
- Encourage students’ confidence, independence, and personal development
Essential Requirements:
- Experience working with SEN/SEMH students
- Strong behaviour management skills
- Experience teaching English and Maths
- Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet individual needs
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Resilient, calm, and flexible approach
- Passion for supporting vulnerable young people
Desirable:
- QTS or PGCE
- Experience within alternative provision, PRU, or specialist settings
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice
- Experience using Boxall Profiles or PACE approaches
- Full UK driving licence
- Experience supporting students with ASC and additional needs
