Salary Scale: Unqualified Teacher Scale Point 1-2 (£22,685- £25,322 y per annum)

Ysgol Awel y Mynydd offers a special opportunity to an individual to study a PGCE (QTS) through an employment-based partnership program (2 years) which is fully funded by the Welsh Government through the provision of the Open University. Ysgol Awel y Mynydd is fully committed to supporting the Welsh Government's campaign to widen access to teaching and diversify the profession.
The program is aimed at graduates who want to change careers or graduates who have experience of working in an environment with children and young people. This may include teaching assistants, learning coaches or youth officers who wish to progress in their career. Applications from candidates who are in their final year at university are also welcome.
This is a particularly exciting time to join Ysgol Awel Y Mynydd, as the successful candidate would have the opportunity to train with experienced and innovative staff in a school that is at the forefront in relation to Curriculum for Wales development and practice in the teaching of reading and phonics. Ysgol Awel y Mynydd has a distinctive community and family feel where there is a close relationship of trust, care and respect between young people and the staff. There is a strong element of collaboration and ready support among the team of staff, where each member of staff understands how key their role is in the success and well-being of our children, our young people, and each other as professional adults.
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about supporting the school's vision and thereby making a big difference in the education and in the lives of our young people through the medium of Welsh. The holder of this position will receive full support from the school and its people as they develop into a confident, innovative and creative educator.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM
Entry requirements for the Open University PGCE salaried pathway which is fully funded by the Welsh Government.
Applicants are required to hold the following, at a minimum:
- A standard equivalent to GCSE Grade C or above in Mathematics or Mathematics-Numeracy
- A standard equivalent to GCSE Grade C or above in either English Language or Welsh First Language
- A full UK honours degree (or equivalent). You must have a degree with at least 50% relevance to the subject if you want to teach to become a secondary school teacher (learners aged 12-16). Additional qualifications and experience in the subject area are also considered. For those candidates applying for a Welsh subject, your degree does not necessarily have to be in this field if you can show that you use the language fluently, as consideration may be given dependant on the depth of your knowledge.
- Applicants need to be available to commit to a full-time contract (not term-time only) until the end of the program in July 2027 and will be required to be based at the school from Monday to Friday.

The PGCE route is a 2-year programme.
Due to the nature of the post the successful candidate will be subject to a disclosure by the Disclosure and Barring Service. It is a requirement that successful candidate will need to register with the Education Workforce Council prior to commencing employment. The ability to teach through the medium of Welsh is essential for this post.
