We are not an agency. The service user is my son. We guarantee working hours in one household.
2 x Private carers wanted in a family home to support a teenager with complex health needs.
He is fun, quirky and easy to spend time with. His needs include autism, ADHD, hearing impairment and a respiratory condition.
Hours: 2 x 10pm-8am shifts per week each. Plus occasional evenings from 5pm.
Duties will include:
- Staying awake. this is not a sleep in job.
- Supporting the young person with day to day living.
- Airway management via tracheotomy, cpap, suction, nebulisers and oxygen.
- Adhering to care plans.
- Assist with routines.
- Support in the community as necessary whilst encouraging independence.
- Light domestic tasks.
- Accurate recording of observations and handing over relevant information to the next care giver.
We have trained many support workers from all walks of life to monitor and respond to the service user’s tracheostomy. Which is ultimately maintaining a safe airway. After 15 years we can confidently assure new applicants that nobody needed to have been a nurse beforehand.
We are looking for individuals who are trustworthy, reliable, loyal, vigilant and confident in lone working (once they are trained).
Being Autism-aware would be an advantage, as would being YouTube, apps and gaming savvy! Having a ‘thick skin’ is recommended, as is not being squeamish!
