CLS Contract Labour Solutions are supporting our Doncaster-based client who are specialists in property refurbishments, site fit-outs, and bespoke joinery. They are currently looking for an experienced Joinery Workshop Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our busy joinery workshop.
Salary: £20.00 per hour
Hours: 39 hours per week
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing workshop production, ensuring quality standards are maintained, coordinating resources, and supporting a team of skilled bench joiners to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and on time.
The successful candidate will have extensive joinery manufacturing experience, strong leadership skills, and a thorough understanding of workshop operations and production processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day management and supervision of the joinery workshop.
- Maintain overall responsibility for the quality of all outgoing joinery products.
- Direct and support the Joinery Foreman to ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, on time, and to the highest quality standards.
- Plan and allocate resources effectively to meet production schedules and project deadlines.
- Coordinate workflow and assign work schedules across the workshop team.
- Action procurement requests and order materials in line with company procedures.
- Take projects from drawings through to completion, including material ordering, cutting lists, assembly, finishing, and packaging.
- Ensure company policies and procedures are adhered to, particularly regarding Health & Safety.
- Implement and maintain high standards of housekeeping throughout the workshop.
- Monitor employee performance and provide coaching, mentoring, and constructive feedback to encourage continuous improvement.
- Manage and maintain all workshop equipment, tools, machinery, and safety equipment.
- Adapt workshop output and resources to accommodate changing priorities and urgent project requirements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure materials are delivered in line with production schedules.
- Attend resource planning meetings and highlight any capacity concerns, resource shortages, or upcoming workflow issues.
- Promote environmental awareness and responsible working practices within the workshop.
- Deliver Toolbox Talks and support a positive safety culture.
- Attend ISO reviews and audits as required.
- Carry out site surveys and attend client or site meetings when necessary.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- NVQ Level 3 Bench Joinery (minimum requirement).
- Proven experience within a joinery manufacturing or workshop environment.
- Strong understanding of joinery manufacturing processes and production methods.
- Experience managing or supervising workshop teams.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Excellent planning, organisational, and time management skills.
- Strong communication and leadership abilities.
- Good knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
- Good IT skills.
Desirable
- NVQ Level 3 Supervision or NVQ Level 6 Site Management.
- Formal management qualification or management training.
- IOSH qualification or equivalent Health & Safety training.
- Experience conducting site surveys.
- Commercial awareness within the construction industry.
Working Conditions
This role is primarily workshop-based, with occasional travel required for site visits, client meetings, and surveys. Overnight stays may occasionally be necessary depending on project requirements.
