Fabrication Supervisor (Sheet Metal Fabrication)

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Fabrication Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day operations of our busy sheet metal workshop. Leading a team of approximately 30 employees, you will play a key role in ensuring safe, efficient production while delivering high-quality work on time and to specification.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you will coordinate labour, materials, machinery, and workflow priorities to meet production targets and maintain operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of around 30 employees, setting clear expectations and maintaining performance, discipline, and morale
- Plan and control workflow to optimise labour and machine capacity
- Ensure production targets and delivery commitments are met (OTIF performance)
- Monitor quality standards, ensuring all work meets drawings, specifications, and customer requirements
- Promote and enforce strong Health & Safety practices, including PPE compliance and risk management
- Manage day-to-day people matters such as attendance, timekeeping, holidays, and minor conduct issues
- Support training, onboarding, and skills development within the team
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives (5S, waste reduction, efficiency improvements)
- Coordinate materials, tooling, and WIP with planning, stores, and engineering teams
- Maintain accurate reporting, job tracking, and production documentation
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- On-time delivery / OTIF performance
- Labour efficiency and adherence to standard times
- Quality performance (right-first-time, rework, scrap levels)
- Health & Safety metrics (incidents, audits, housekeeping)
- Team attendance, timekeeping, and retention
- Workflow efficiency and bottleneck management
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
- Proven supervisory experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment (ideally sheet metal)
- Strong knowledge of fabrication processes (cutting, forming, welding, finishing)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise, and meet deadlines
- Confident people manager with experience handling employee relations matters
- Strong commitment to Health & Safety in an industrial environment
- Excellent communication skills and cross-functional collaboration
Desirable:
- Health & Safety qualifications (e.g., IOSH Managing Safely)
- First Aid or Fire Marshal training
- Experience with lean manufacturing / continuous improvement (5S, root cause analysis)
- Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems and production tracking
Working Hours & Environment
- Hours: Monday to Thursday, 6:00am – 4:30pm
- Flexibility required to support production needs, including occasional overtime
- Factory/workshop environment – PPE provided and required at all times
