Job Overview
To work towards achieving a recognised Early Years qualification whilst supporting the nursery team in providing a safe, caring, stimulating and inclusive environment for all children. The apprentice will learn through practical experience, training, and guidance from experienced practitioners.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Childcare and Learning
- Support the care, learning and development of children aged 0–5 years.
- Assist in planning and delivering age-appropriate activities that promote children’s learning and development.
- Engage positively with children through play and daily routines.
- Encourage children’s independence, confidence, and social skills.
- Observe children’s progress and contribute to learning records under supervision.
Health, Safety and Welfare
- Help maintain a safe, clean and secure environment at all times.
- Follow nursery policies and procedures, including safeguarding and child protection.
- Support children’s personal care needs, including nappy changing and toileting, following nursery procedures.
- Assist with meal and snack times while promoting healthy eating habits.
- Report any concerns regarding children’s welfare, health, or safety to senior staff immediately.
Working as Part of a Team
- Work alongside qualified practitioners and managers to provide high-quality childcare.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and apprenticeship reviews as required.
- Develop positive relationships with colleagues, children, and families.
- Accept guidance and feedback positively to support personal development.
Housekeeping Duties
- Help prepare, set up and tidy activity areas.
- Ensure toys, resources and equipment are cleaned and stored appropriately.
- Support daily cleaning routines and maintain high standards of hygiene throughout the nursery.
Professional Development
- Complete all coursework and assessments required as part of the apprenticeship programme.
- Demonstrate a commitment to learning and developing professional childcare skills.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families and staff.
- Present a professional appearance and conduct at all times.
Person Specification
Essential
- Passion for working with children.
- Reliable, punctual and enthusiastic.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to learn and undertake training.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable
- Previous experience working with children (voluntary or paid).
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
- Understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

- Support senior staff in supervising children during play, learning, and meal times
- Assist in organising and facilitating age-appropriate activities that promote development and socialisation
- Maintain a clean and safe environment, ensuring all areas are hygienic and well-organised

- Engage positively with children to encourage participation and confidence

Qualifications
- Passionate about working with children and committed to their development
- Previous nursery experience or background in early childhood education is desirable but not essential; training will be provided
- Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written
- Ability to work effectively within a team and demonstrate leadership qualities when appropriate
- Organised with good management skills to support daily nursery operations
- Experience working with children or childcare is advantageous
- Valid driving licence is preferred for transportation duties or errands related to the nursery
- Willingness to learn new skills through on-the-job training and professional development opportunities

Pay: From £8.00 per hour
