Children’s Disability Support Worker - Classroom Based

The Role:
You will work with primary and secondary-aged students, providing vital support to ensure they can engage in learning and develop life skills for independence. You will be matched with students based on your experience and the age group most suited to your skills.
Your Responsibilities:
- Assist students with a range of SEN, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), by helping them with communication through methods such as Makaton, PECS, and AAC.
- Support students with daily activities in the classroom, assist with personal care when required, and help them participate in offsite visits.
- Focus on equipping students with the life skills they need to become as independent as possible.
- Help students gain confidence in a supportive environment.

The ideal person will have:
- Qualification in Health and Social Care, Teaching Assistant, Childcare, or a similar relevant field is preferred (NVQ, CACHE, Degree, or equivalent)
- Experience working with adults or children with SEN.
- Knowledge of communication systems such as Makaton, PECS, and AAC.
- Compassionate and patient approach to supporting children with additional needs.
- Ability to assist with personal care, where necessary.
- Desire to help students develop life skills and gain independence.
Hours:
8:30 am to 3:30 pm - Term Time
Location - Whitehaven
Role Type: Full time / Part Time / Temp - Perm
Pay Rate: £14.60 - £16.90 per hour

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Pay: £14.60-£16.90 per hour
