Accounts Assistant Manager | Stevenage | Full-time
Ready to take on real responsibility and progress your career in a big way?
If you're a practice accountant with solid experience across accounts, tax and VAT, and you're looking for a role that genuinely challenges you while offering a clear path upward, this one is worth your attention.
Our client is a leading professional services firm covering audit, tax, consulting and financial advisory, with a diverse client base spanning owner-managed businesses, sole traders, charities and large corporates. They're growing their Stevenage team and looking for an Accounts Assistant Manager to play a central role in both client delivery and team development.
The role
Don't let the title underplay what this position actually involves. You'll be managing your own client portfolio - taking responsibility for the timely delivery of year-end accounts, VAT returns and tax filings - and serving as a trusted point of contact for client queries across all of these areas. On the technical side, you'll be preparing and reviewing personal and corporate tax returns, liaising with the VAT manager on complex queries, and supporting senior leadership with tax planning and advisory work.
You'll also play a meaningful role in the team around you - reviewing junior staff work, delivering tailored training sessions, mentoring colleagues, and contributing to the development of internal processes and guidance materials. Workflow planning, new client onboarding and ad-hoc support to partners and directors are all part of the picture too.
It's a broad, hands-on role with real variety and real visibility.
Who we're looking for
You'll bring at least five years of accountancy practice experience and a strong working knowledge across accounts preparation, VAT, personal tax and corporation tax. You've already taken on some supervisory or training responsibility and you're ready to do more of it. ACA or ACCA qualified is preferred, though equivalent experience will be considered. Familiarity with cloud accounting platforms such as Xero, QuickBooks or Sage would be a bonus.
You're highly organised, technically sharp, and calm under pressure. You communicate clearly with clients and colleagues alike, you hold yourself to a high standard, and you're the kind of person who takes genuine pride in the quality of the work that leaves your desk - and your team's.
What we offer
A strong market-competitive salary (depending on experience) and benefits package, and a genuine opportunity to grow within a collaborative, partner-led environment where your contribution will be seen and valued.
If this sounds like the right next move, apply today - we'd love to talk.
