This is an exciting new opportunity for a Biomedical Scientist to join our Haematology and Blood Transfusion department.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and proactive individual to join our department as an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist, with experience in working in an NHS diagnostic laboratory.
This role is part of the team of BMS providing the 24/7 service within the Haematology and Blood Transfusion department.
The ideal candidate will be a quick learner and good team player and someone with aspirations of developing their biomedical scientist career in a Haematology and Blood Transfusion disciplinary setting.
The post holder will join our team of BMS staff and following all the appropriate training, will be expected to participate in the 24/7 haematology and Blood Transfusion services provision.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
As HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist your main duties will include, but not limited to:
Perform daily routine and specialised diagnostic services on patient and environmental samples containing potentially infectious material. This will be done on a rotational basis using manual and automated techniques to exacting medical and scientific standards according to standard operating procedures.
Perform daily interpretation of diagnostic investigations. Know how to proceed in the event of technical / analytical nonconformity and when to inform the line manager.
Accurate and timely entry of data onto the laboratory computer system and/or automated analysers using a VDU and keyboard workstation.
As appropriate record reports for authorisation in electronic form and / or verbally to persons authorised to receive them.
Quality check outputs including maintaining necessary internal records
Participate in external and internal quality assurance schemes and vertical and horizontal audits as directed by senior staff.
Work to meet laboratory performance targets as directed by senior staff
Under supervision, develop and investigate new techniques as required by the changing needs of the service.
To regularly inform and discuss progress of training towards a post registration specialist competence portfolio, with the laboratory training officer and other senior staff as appropriate.

To participate in appraisals and personal reviews and work to agreed set objectives.
To participate in shifts and out of hour’s services as required.
To undertake phlebotomy as required after suitable training.
