Overview of Role
This short-term role will help Mountbatten become more environmentally sustainable. The sustainability officer will identify, develop, plan and implement sustainability initiatives at Mountbatten Hospice helping to inform and advance Mountbatten’s Green Plan.
The sustainability officer will initially carry out a sustainability audit and then devise an action plan, with a clear list of short, medium, and long-term recommendations, including identifying immediately achievable goals.
The sustainability officer will devise and implement strategies for engaging Mountbatten staff and volunteers in sustainability behaviour change and identify ‘sustainability champions’ across Mountbatten.
The output of this fixed term role will relate to Mountbatten Isle of Wight but the sustainability officer will ensure sustainability initiatives can be replicated at Mountbatten Hampshire in the longer term.
Key Tasks
· To identify, develop and implement sustainability initiatives and define measurable objectives that will form the Mountbatten Green Plan and align to Mountbatten’s strategy.
· To advise, support and carry out audit activities (for example waste or energy audits) to ensure the impact of initiatives can be quantified and measured.
· To work across all teams (including but not limited to, clinical teams, facilities, retail, fundraising, catering, and support services) at Mountbatten to ensure sustainability initiatives are identified, developed and implemented widely.
· To develop and maintain a detailed project plan that can be continued in the future and replicated at Mountbatten Hampshire.
· To assist Mountbatten in achieving the bronze level ‘Greener Palliative Care Award’ Sustainability | APM, and entering other relevant award schemes.
· To plan and deliver awareness raising activities to increase staff and volunteer motivation to engage in sustainability initiatives and identify ‘sustainability champions’ to continue implementation of the Mountbatten Green Plan into the future.
· To work with the communications team to produce sustainability related information to support the development of awareness and engagement from staff and volunteers.
· To review and contribute to Mountbatten’s Environmental Sustainability Policy, including ensuring compliance and advising on any relevant environmental legislation.
· To produce regular reports demonstrating progress against the Mountbatten Green Plan and to present information from reports as required at internal governance meetings.
Education and Training Responsibilities
· To provide educational information to Mountbatten staff and volunteers to raise their awareness of the importance of environmental and sustainability initiatives that help drive behaviour change.
Research, Audit and Service Evaluation Responsibilities
· To advise, support and conduct relevant audits to measure the impact of, and inform development of sustainability initiatives.
· To advise, support and conduct other evaluation activities that contribute to the development of sustainability initiatives.
Key Relationships
· The Director of People Services, The Director of Quality and Operations, Head of Education and Training, Facilities manager.
· This role requires engagement across all staff and volunteers at all levels to ensure the whole organisation responds and participates in environmental and sustainability initiatives.
· ‘Mountbatten sustainability champions’ once identified.
Other Responsibilities
· To champion environmental sustainability at Mountbatten.
