At Action for Children, we offer more than just a job. Join us and you’ll be part of a team dedicated to giving children safe and happy childhoods. See how your skills can make a real difference, helping solve the problems children and young people face every day.
A bit about the role
As a Residential Support Worker at Monksfield, you’ll support children with moderate to severe learning difficulties and complex health needs through daily routines, personal care, play, learning and social activities.
You’ll help young people build new skills, explore interests and grow in confidence through meaningful, engaging experiences.
The role includes completing risk assessments, contributing to care planning, advocating for each child and working closely with families and professionals.
It’s an active, hands-on position requiring compassion, patience and commitment.
Staff bring their own hobbies into their role, from music to sports to inspire children and spark new opportunities.
With varied shifts across mornings, evenings, nights and weekly sleep-ins, flexibility is essential.
About the service
Monksfield is a lively, energetic home, grounded by strong care, routine and purpose.
Staff describe it as a family-like culture built on genuine connection, support and shared commitment. Every small step a child takes gaining confidence, trying something new, managing a difficult moment, is celebrated as a meaningful achievement.
The team reflects together, learns together and always has each other’s back, creating a safe, nurturing environment for both children and staff.
At its core, Monksfield is a place where every child is valued, loved and encouraged to experience life fully, without limits placed by disability.

- Values diversity and inclusivity, showing sensitivity and respect for the needs of all children and colleagues.
Let's talk about you.

- Experience working within a care setting.
- Has, or is working towards, a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent, to be achieved within 2 years of starting)
- Experience and training in safeguarding.
- An innovative and creative approach to problem solving.
- Experience of developing tailored care plans
- The ability to create a safe and fun environment for both staff and children in the home and in the community.
Why Action for Children?
Every child should have a loving home, food, warmth, the chance to grow and learn - the support to cope with life’s challenges. But too many children don’t.
By bringing your passion and unique skills and experience, you’ll help us create change that really matters. And when we succeed, we’ll recognise what you did to make a difference.
We've been driven by love to take action for children for over 150 years, giving them the protection and practical help they need. A lot’s changed since 1869. But what children really need, hasn’t. So as long as children need us, we’ll be here.
Will you join us?

Diversity, equality and inclusion
We work hard to create an inclusive environment. One where individuality is celebrated and where everyone feels valued and supported. Because when we come together, with skills like yours, we’re capable of amazing things.
We actively encourage applications from people with Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds and people with a disability, as these groups are under-represented within Action for Children.
Men are currently under-represented within our Children Service roles. We’d like to change that. So, we really encourage men to apply for any of our Children Service roles.
