We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated self-employed music teachers to join our teacher pool, to enable us to find potential teachers at short notice when the need arises. We will contact people in the teacher pool when work becomes available.
We are specifically looking for people who can teach drums, guitar or piano.
We currently work with thousands of children, young people and adults, and this figure continues to rise year on year.

Our tutors inspire students every day by delivering:
- Classroom instrumental learning (sometimes known as "Whole Class Teaching" or "Wider Opps")
- Music curriculum teaching
- Small group, paired and 1-1 music lessons on a specific instruments
- Choirs and ensembles
- Workshops
- Performances
Your role will involve teaching in various schools across Calderdale and at our Music Centres in Hebden Bridge and Halifax.
A full driving licence and an enhanced DBS certificate on the update service is essential for this role. Calderdale Music can arrange a DBS check on your behalf.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that motivates and engages students of all ages.
- Deliver high-quality music lessons in Calderdale
- Use relevant data to track musical, personal, and social progress, set targets, record work, and provide appropriate feedback to learners via our Speed Admin platform.
- Develop and adapt resources to meet the needs and interests of all learners.
- Establish positive and inspiring relationships with pupils.
- Foster positive relationships with school-based staff and other partner organisations.
- Work within the team and share good practice.
- Support Calderdale Music’s objectives regarding equal opportunities, cultural diversity, inclusion, and social justice.
- Follow Calderdale Music’s safeguarding policy at all times and model commitment to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children and young people
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications and Training:
- High level of proficiency (Grade 8 or equivalent standard) on at least one musical instrument
Experience:
- Proven track record in effective teaching.
- Ability to demonstrate varied teaching styles and genres.
- Experience with holistic approaches to learning and understanding how music supports personal and social development.
- Experience in overcoming challenges and knowing when and how to seek support.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Excellent oral, interpersonal, planning, organisational, and communication skills.
- Understanding of the barriers young people may face in making music.
- Skills in delivering outstanding and innovative lessons, adopting flexible approaches to meet pupil needs.
- Ability to create a safe learning environment and build positive relationships with a range of pupils and colleagues.
