Are you a proactive relationship-builder who thrives on opening doors and turning cold conversations into committed partnerships? At The Marketing Trainer, we're looking for a Business Development Manager who can identify the right employers, articulate the value of marketing apprenticeships, and convert interest into starts.
The Opportunity
We're an independent training provider specialising in the Multi-Channel Marketer Level 3 apprenticeships and Market Research Executive Level 4 — delivered entirely remotely to apprentices and employers across England. As a CIM Approved Study Centre, we combine rigorous professional standards with a genuinely personalised learner experience.
This is a pivotal new role. You'll be responsible for growing our employer partner base — identifying SMEs and levy-paying organisations who need marketing talent and matching them to our programmes.
Your Role
Reporting to the Directors, you'll lead outbound employer prospecting and pipeline development — from first contact through to handing over to recruitment. You'll become a specialist in communicating the apprenticeship funding model and the return on investment our programmes deliver.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively identify and qualify new employer prospects via outbound calls, email, LinkedIn, and sector events
- Build a strong pipeline of SME and mid-market employers with a genuine need for marketing talent
- Use intelligence tools such as LinkedIn Sales Nav to identify high-potential targets
- Develop a deep understanding of the MCM and MRE standards and communicate their value to hiring managers and HR leads
- Manage the full employer onboarding conversation from initial outreach to passing over to recruitment
- Maintain accurate records of all employer interactions in our CRM
- Work closely with the MD and delivery team to align employer expectations with programme design
- Meet and exceed agreed KPIs for outreach activity, employer meetings, and new starts(very reasonable targets)
What We're Looking For
- Comfortable with a high-volume outbound role — phone, email, and LinkedIn outreach
- Minimum 6 months B2B experience in sales, recruitment, or business development
- A track record of proactively generating meetings or leads in a target-driven environment
- Able to explain complex funding models (apprenticeship levy, co-investment, employer incentives) clearly and compellingly
- Confident working independently in a fully remote environment
- Organised, self-motivated, and commercially minded
- An interest in marketing, digital skills, or the education sector is a strong advantage
What We Offer
- Fully remote, flexible working
- A high-autonomy role with direct access to senior leadership
- The chance to shape the BD function from the ground up
- A small, expert team doing meaningful work in a growing sector
Our Process
Stage 1: Introductory call with the directors — focused on fit, your approach to outbound BD, and your understanding of the apprenticeship market.
Stage 2: A short presentation followed by a second conversation
Pay: £35,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
Work Location: Remote
