Teqniq is searching for a Construction Officer (Asbestos/Compliance) to work in the public sector.
37 hours per week.
24 week contract.
The standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, although I can be flexible, with start and finish times ranging from 7am to 5pm if required.
Job Description:
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in managing asbestos compliance across local authority buildings, supporting planned maintenance programmes and ensuring statutory testing is completed to the highest standard. The role includes overseeing asbestos re-inspections, mansafe testing, safety glazing surveys, and the servicing of roller shutter and automatic doors. The successful candidate will build on the excellent work already established by the current officer, helping to drive continued improvement and take the service to the next level.
We are looking for someone with experience in constuction project management, asbestos managment, compliance management an the ability to work on excell products including editing databases.
Principal Accountabilities:
- To manage asbestos in buildings and ensure the Authority remains compliant with regulations and does not expose staff or the public to asbestos risk.
- Ensure compliance with current asbestos regulations, legislation, specifications, British Standards, Codes of Practice, and CDM Regulations.
- Carry out site visits to ensure contractors comply with local authority policies and procedures.
- Manage statutory testing for all local authority buildings, ensuring the surveys required are completed at the appropriate intervals.
- Manage works arising from statutory survey reports.
- Work with colleagues in the authority to manage compliance of buildings with contractual terms of Tenancy agreements and report breaches to senior management for follow-up action.
- Implement the Division’s responsibilities for Health & Safety.
- To act as Project Manager for construction projects of ranging complexities.
- Liaise directly with officers, senior management, building occupants & the public in relation to site safety issues, construction defects and to ensure that buildings are designed to be constructed, operated, maintained and demolished safely.
- Undertake management & administration of minor works projects and assist in Building Surveying / Health & Safety duties.
- Liaise directly with Contractors, subcontractors & HSE in relation to Asbestos issues.
- Attendance at meetings with clients, senior management, external agencies, consultants and contractors.
- Maintain Continual Professional Development to keep aware of revised legislation, new building products etc.
- Motivate, encourage the development of staff.
- Assist in the preparation of Departmental & Corporate Plans and Policies.
- Undertake any other duties that may be required.
- To comply with the relevant sections of the Authority’s policy statement on Health, Safety and Welfare at Work.
- To adhere to the principles of the Corporate Equality Policy and ensure commitment to anti-discriminatory practice.
- To assist Building Services Engineers including CAD, preparation of specifications etc.
