The role:
We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join the adult acute Speech and Language Therapy service within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Working as part of a large, supportive and forward-thinking department, you will contribute to delivering high-quality care across a range of acute hospital settings. This city-wide post offers variety, flexibility and the opportunity to support patients with communication and swallowing needs where demand is greatest. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams while benefiting from strong peer support, supervision and ongoing development opportunities. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
Full Time, Permanent
Based Location: Glasgow Royal Infirmary
Shift Pattern: 5 over 7 (Monday to Sunday)
Key responsibilities:
- Independently assess, diagnose and manage a varied caseload of adults with communication and swallowing difficulties across acute settings

Deliver evidence-based interventions and develop individualised care plans to optimise patient outcomes
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, providing specialist advice to support clinical decision-making
- Support service delivery across sites, responding flexibly to clinical demand and ensuring continuity of care

Maintain accurate clinical records, activity data, and comply with professional, local and national standards
- Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement and service development activities
- Contribute to supervision, training and support of students, junior staff and colleagues
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy with current HCPC registration

Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining high standards of practice

Experience supporting adults with communication and/or swallowing difficulties, including dysphagia, or transferable experience in similar settings

Awareness of a range of assessment methods, therapeutic approaches, and clinical governance principles

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, recognising when to seek guidance and support

Strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle complex or sensitive situations

Experience contributing to supervision, audit, quality improvement, or service development activities is welcomed
