- Continuous Improvement Use data and root-cause analysis to prevent repeat risk.
- Audit Readiness Keep records complete, retrievable and inspection-ready.
- Depot Standards Create one national compliance rhythm across every hub.
What You Will Own

- Operator Licence assurance. Support the named Transport Manager and CPC holder in demonstrating continuous and effective control of the transport operation.
- DVSA and audit readiness. Maintain readiness for DVSA visits, external audits, insurance reviews and Traffic Commissioner scrutiny.
- Multi-hub audit programme. Lead structured audits across Wakefield, Basingstoke, Shrewsbury and Exeter, with clear action owners and closure deadlines.
- Vehicle History Files. Ensure every vehicle record is accurate, current, complete and easy to retrieve.
- Roadworthiness controls. Oversee planned maintenance, safety inspections, MOTs, brake-test evidence, tachograph calibration, tail-lift servicing and LOLER requirements.
- Defects and VOR. Ensure defects are reported, triaged, actioned and evidenced, with unroadworthy vehicles removed from service until formally cleared.
- Tachomaster governance. Own driver-hours, WTD, downloads, infringements, missing mileage, missing days and repeat-risk intervention.
- Driver standards. Work with Driver Trainers and depot leaders to improve walkaround checks, tachograph discipline and safe driving behaviours.
- Supplier compliance. Assess workshops, maintenance providers, hire companies and third-party carriers against legal, safety and documentation standards.
- Reporting and insight. Produce weekly and monthly compliance packs that identify trends, risks, overdue actions and improvement priorities.

- Proven experience in transport compliance, fleet compliance, road transport management or a closely related HGV/LGV compliance role.
- Strong knowledge of Operator Licence responsibilities, DVSA expectations, Traffic Commissioner standards and vehicle roadworthiness requirements.
- Practical experience of PMIs, safety inspections, MOT control, defect management, VOR processes, vehicle files and maintenance-provider performance.
- Strong Tachomaster or equivalent tachograph-analysis experience, including drivers’ hours, WTD, infringements, missing mileage and reporting.
- The ability to audit sites, challenge standards constructively and turn findings into clear, prioritised action plans.
- Excellent attention to detail, evidence discipline and document-control standards.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to convert compliance data into practical operational action.
- The confidence to influence drivers, planners, depot leaders, suppliers and senior management.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the national depot network.
- A Transport Manager CPC qualification is highly desirable. IOSH, NEBOSH, FORS, Earned Recognition, ISO, telematics, defect-system or digital fleet-platform experience would also be advantageous.
