Step into Teaching has partnered with a fantastic secondary school in Bristol that is dedicated to promoting mental health and wellbeing for both students and staff. This school is committed to helping you develop your skills, providing you with the tools and support necessary to succeed.
This role will be based in the school from September until July 2027, with then a chance to move onto the school teacher training programme. The school are really looking for a chance to "grow their own" so its important for them to have someone who will continue after July.
The school has several students with complex needs, including physical and social-emotional mental health (SEMH) challenges, and they need your support to thrive academically and socially.
As an SEMH/SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll work alongside a specialist team to support these students in and out of the classroom, helping them reach their full potential and have a positive school experience.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Provide classroom support by assisting the teacher and helping students stay engaged during lessons.
- Supporting across the primary curriculum with a chance to support in your specialist subject.
- Participate in duty activities (before school, break, and after school) as part of a rota system.
- Assist with administrative tasks, such as preparing lessons, creating resources, and filing.
- Support students with enrichment activities and extra-curricular projects.

What We’re Looking For:
- A bachelor’s degree (minimum 2:2) or soon to be finished degree
- A passion for learning and helping others.
- The ability to build strong relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
- An empathetic, “can-do” mindset.
- Ideally, some experience working with children who have SEND/SEMH needs.
